Golfo Maggini

Manolis Stratakis
Dr Emmanuel Stratakis is Research Director at the Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser (IESL) of the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas(FORTH), where he is leading the “Ultrafast Laser Micro- and Nano- processing” laboratory(https://www.iesl.forth.gr/en/research/ULNMP-Group). He received his Ph.D. in Physics in 2001 from the University of Crete. He has been a Visiting Scientist at the University of California Berkeley in the fall semesters of 2006 and 2008 and he has coordinated many National and EU grants. He has been an Editor of the journals ‘Optoelectronic Advances’, ‘Materials Today (Bio)’, ‘Applied Sciences’ and ‘International Journal of molecular Sciences’. Since 2015, he is the Director of the European Nanoscience Facility of FORTH, part of the NFFA-Europe EU Infrastructure, where he is a member of the General Assembly. He is a national expert in the High-Level Group of EU on Nanotechnologies, Advanced Materials, Biotechnology, Advanced Manufacturing and Processing. He is a member of the Scientific Committee of COST. Since January 2020 he is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Biomimetic (https://www.biomimetic.gr/).

Giannis Perperidis
Giannis Perperidis is currently serving as an adjunct lecturer in the History Department of the Ionian University (Greece) and as a post-doctoral researcher at Panteion University, Greece. He completed his Ph.D. at the Department of Philosophy of the University of Ioannina, receiving a scholarship from the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (H.F.R.I.). Giannis has authored articles in both national and international peer-reviewed scientific journals, including Public Realm, Technology in Society, Frontiers in Blockchain, and the International Journal of the Commons. Furthermore, he has contributed chapters to various collected volumes, such as those edited by Pandia & Kapos (2021) and Rantis (2022). In addition to his research contributions, Giannis translated one of Andrew Feenberg’s books, Between Reason and Experience into Greek (published by ROPI Publications). He has also been involved in the collective translation of Silke Helfrich and David Bollier’s book on the commons, entitled Free, Fair, and Alive. His expertise lies in the fields of Philosophy of Technology, Philosophy of Digital Technologies, Philosophy and Ethics of Artificial Intelligence, Commons and Digital Commons, alternative technologies and makerspaces, gaming technologies, and the broader political implications of technical artifacts.

Marios Petridis
Marios Petridis is an officer in the Hellenic Air Force (HAF), having served in various staff, operational, and combat positions both domestically and internationally. He is currently pursuing a PhD in the Philosophy of Science under the supervision of Assistant Professor S. Orestis Palermos at the Philosophy Department of the University of Ioannina. His main research interests focus on Lethal Autonomous Weapon Systems (LAWS) and their intersection with theories of responsibility and just war theory. Marios holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Panteion University and two Master’s degrees—one in Science and Technology Studies and another in the Sociology of Law—both from the University of Athens.

Paraskevi (Vivi) Zapsa
Paraskevi (Vivi) Zapsa studied History of European Culture and have a master’s degree in philosophy. Vivi is a PhD candidate at the Department of Philosophy of the University of Ioannina supervised by Professor Golfo Maggini. The topic of her thesis is “High Tech as a Key Shaping Parameter of the Late Modern Condition: A Consideration in the Light of Contemporary Phenomenology of Technique”. Vivi is Head of Human Resources and Finance at NIKI Digital Engineering and a consultant for the German high-tech company TWT GmbH Science & Innovation. Paraskevi’s main concern is the creation and training of scientific teams for the staffing of industrial research groups and the development of integrated solutions for the largest companies in the German automotive industry in the fields of Artificial Intelligence, Digital Engineering, Cloud-based technologies, Autonomous Driving, Data Science, Virtual Reality, E-Mobility, Systems Engineering, Aerospace, and Quantum Computing Technology.

S. Orestis Palermos
S. Orestis Palermos (PhD & MSc in Philosophy, University of Edinburgh; MSc and UG in Chemical Engineering, National Technical University of Athens) is an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at the University of Ioannina. His research lies at the intersection of the philosophy of cognitive science, epistemology, and philosophy of technology, with a focus on the epistemological and ethical implications of extended and distributed cognition. He has co-edited several volumes, including Extended Epistemology (Oxford University Press, 2018), Socially Extended Epistemology (Oxford University Press, 2018), and Feminist Philosophy and Emerging Technologies (Routledge, 2024). Prior to joining the University of Ioannina, he held positions at Cardiff University (Assistant and later Associate Professor) and the University of Edinburgh (Postdoctoral Research Assistant).

Fotini Vaki
Fotini Vaki was born in Athens and studied Philosophy at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the University of Essex in U.K. She is Associate Professor of the History of Philosophy and Head of the Department of History at the Ionian University. She is the author of the books, Progress in the Enlightenment: Faces and Facets (Athens, Eurasia, 2012) and Neoliberalism, Democracy and Rights (Athens, Eurasia, 2021). She has published papers in the areas of Political and Moral philosophy and Critical Theory in Greek and International journals. Between 2015-2019 she served as an M.P for Corfu.

Iakovos Georgoudis Pitarokilis

Giannis Tsatsos
Giannis Tsatsos works as a primary school teacher. He studied pedagogy, with his bachelor’s degree focusing on philosophy and the demands of modern education. He completed a postgraduate program in educational sciences, with a master’s thesis entitled “Personal Epistemology and new Literacies in Education.” His doctoral dissertation focuses on intellectual virtues, highlighting the importance of epistemic doubt in educational systems that are increasingly reliant on digital technologies.

Manolis Patiniotis

Alexandros Kioupkiolis
Alexandros Kioupkiolis is a professor of contemporary political theory at Aristotle University. He has studied Classical Philology (University of Athens) and Contemporary Political Theory (MA, Essex University; DPhil, Oxford University). His research interests focus on radical democracy, the commons, social movements, and the philosophy of freedom. He was the principal investigator and lead researcher of the ERC-funded project Heteropolitics, 2017–2020 (heteropolitics.net) which was dedicated to the above themes of research and has published numerous books and articles on related topics, including the monographs The Common and Counter-hegemonic Politics (Edinburgh University Press, 2019), Το Πολιτικό. Σύγχρονοι Στοχασμοί (Erma Publications, 2021), and Common Hegemony, Populism, and the New Municipalism: Democratic Alter-Politics and Transformative Strategies (Routledge, 2022).

Nikos Nikoletos
Nikos Nikoletos is a Ph.D. Candidate at the Philosophy Department of the University of Ioannina and a poet. His research focuses on the philosophy of anthropotechnology of Bernard Stiegler in relation to the digital milieu and the Anthropocene. He has published on the politics of technology, Marxist theory and provided literary criticisms in both international and Greek journals.

Eirini Folina
Eirini Folina is a PhD candidate at the Department of Philosophy of the University of Ioannina under the supervision of Professor Golfo Maggini. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy, Education, and Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Philosophy from the Philosophy Department of the University of Ioannina. Her master’s thesis concerned Hans Jonas’ ethics of responsibility and its impact upon bioethics, intergenerational ethics, and the ethics of vulnerability. Her main research interests include applied ethics, with an emphasis on bioethics, medical ethics, ethics of new technologies, and environmental ethics.
